The small and wild beach lies within a conservation area - the Environmental Reserve of the Emerências - and is reached by the Buzios / Cabo Frio road. Three kilometers after the Entrance Porch of Búzios, one comes to the neighborhood that gives the beach its name. From there, continue for two kilometers on asphalt and one kilometer on the dirt road.

The name of the beach came from a slaver, José Gonçalves, who used the area for slave trading. Surrounded by rocks, cliffs, hills and native vegetation, the beach has dark and fine sands and waves that attract surfers.

The cold drinks and the snacks - especially the clam shells - are guaranteed by the unusual beach hut owned by Ranieri, an artist from Minas Gerais who has traveled half the world and is extremely nice.
