Mary Undoer of Knots is one of the oldest devotions to Our Lady, started in Germany, in 1700, when a miraculous picture inspired by a meditation of Saint Irenaeus, depicting the Virgin, was found. It was later placed in the Church of St. Peter am Perlack, in Augsburg. The miracles spread throughout Europe and Argentina, however, the shrines were limited to only one altar dedicated to Her. The chapel in Búzios was erected and dedicated exclusively to Our Lady Undoer of Knots, unlike other churches in Brazil and worldwide.
